Infrared-Based Underwater Wireless Communication System - STS Project Implementation

This project proposes an infrared (IR) based underwater communication system capable of wirelessly transmitting messages through water. This system presents a cost-effective alternative to traditional long, heavy physical cables that span seas and rivers, which are expensive to install and maintain. By utilizing infrared transmitter-receiver pairs, this system can facilitate underwater communication efficiently.

The system comprises two microcontroller-based circuits, each equipped with IR transmitter-receiver pairs and LCD displays for showing messages. Keyboards are connected to each circuit to allow users to input messages. The demonstration involves using two water barrels to simulate underwater communication with IR signals passing through the water containers.

An added feature of the system is the acknowledgment receipt message sent from the receiving circuit back to the transmitting circuit upon message receipt. This ensures reliable and efficient communication between the two circuits wirelessly.

Key Features:

  1. IR-Based Communication: Utilizes infrared transmitter-receiver pairs for wireless message transmission.
  2. Cost-Effective: Offers a cheaper alternative to expensive underwater cables.
  3. Microcontroller Circuits: Each circuit includes an LCD display and keyboard for message input and display.
  4. Underwater Demonstration: Uses water barrels to simulate underwater IR communication.
  5. Acknowledgment Receipt: Ensures message delivery with an acknowledgment from the receiving circuit.

This IR-based underwater communication system showcases an innovative approach to wireless communication in aquatic environments, offering both reliability and cost savings.
