IoT based remote monitoring of water quality in tanks - Case of WASAC

Water is regarded as a basic requirement for humans in their daily lives. It is required in a variety of settings, including the home, the workplace, the manufacturing sector, the hospital, and others. The quality of the water needs to be closely monitored on a regular basis and effectively if one is to live a decent life. Numerous factors can contribute to water pollution, such as a big population moving from rural to urban areas (when the population of a city increases, waste management issues arise, which can contribute to environmental pollution), an increase in waste-producing industry, erosion, etc. Unsafe water can cause a number of illnesses, including cancer, cholera, and diarrhea. Fresh water quality is typically described in terms of its chemical, biological, and physical composition, and the procedures used to monitor water quality were typically water sampling, test sampling, and investigative analysis. However, these techniques are tested by scientists in labs, and it is discovered that they are slow.

In this project, we design an affordable system architecture for utilizing Internet of Things (IOT) technology, which delivers the required results in real time, to remotely monitor the quality of water in tanks of WASAC. For the purpose of putting this research into practice, a prototype was created using both a software and hardware component.  The implementation of this project will significantly increase the contribution made to WASAC (Water and Sanitation Corporation), a firm within the Rwandan government (GoR). Although WASAC includes multiple departments, this initiative is only relevant to the side of the department that monitors water quality. The system is designed so that the technician can automatically receive an email notification about the water quality without physically visiting the location.
