IoT based toxic gas detection and level of landfill - Case study: NDUBA LANDFILL

As the world's population expands, so does the amount of waste. Most landfills release harmful pollutants into the air and into the homes of those who live nearby. Effective landfill management is necessary to protect both the environment and human health and wellbeing. The findings of the literature review indicate that growing nations still struggle to manage landfills because of the economic costs involved, that new technologies want infrastructure upgrades, and that even existing technology demands skilled workers. As a result, an IOT-based Toxic Gas Detection and Landfill Level was constructed using an ultrasonic sensor, a gas sensor, and a temperature sensor to collect data from the Nduba landfill's physical environment. A microcontroller then processed the data, which was then wirelessly sent to the Adafruit IO Cloud Service.

The interested individuals were then notified through text message on the status of the Nduba Landfill via the TwilioSms Application Programming interface. The NDUBA Landfill in the GASABO District will be managed better as a result of the thesis. The research thesis use qualitative approaches to achieve this objective. The outcomes would be useful in achieving SDGs like climate action, clean water, and sanitation, as well as goals related to human health and wellbeing.
