The TSOP1738 IR Receiver is an infrared sensor module designed to receive modulated infrared signals, typically from remote control devices. It operates at a frequency of 38 kHz, making it compatible with most consumer electronics that use IR remote controls. The module features a built-in demodulator that filters and detects only the specific IR signals within the 38 kHz frequency range, ensuring reliable signal reception in environments with ambient infrared noise. It outputs a digital signal that can be interfaced with microcontrollers, such as Arduino or Raspberry Pi, for applications like remote control systems, home automation, and robotic control. The TSOP1738 is energy-efficient and compact, suitable for a wide range of IR communication tasks.  

The sensor operates on 5V and consumes around 5mA to operate. Normally the signal pin (pin 3) IC is connected to a microcontroller to analyse the IR signal received.
