Overview

The Automatic Door Unlocking System using Face Recognition is a project that utilizes the ESP32-CAM module to capture and recognize human faces, providing a secure and efficient way to unlock doors. This system is designed to increase security and safety in various environments, particularly in home settings, by using face recognition as a biometric trait. The proposed system is a standalone security device that can detect intruders and prevent unauthorized access.

Components Needed

To build this project, the following components are required:

  • ESP32-CAM module
  • Arduino Uno board
  • Web camera
  • Electromagnetic lock
  • Power supply
  • Jumper wires
  • Breadboard

How It Works

The system works by capturing images of faces using the ESP32-CAM module and comparing them with stored database images. The LBPH (Local Binary Pattern Histogram) algorithm is used for face recognition and detection. The algorithm converts the image from color to grayscale, divides it into pixels, and allocates them in a matrix form. The images are then stored in a database. When a face is detected, the system checks if it matches with the stored images. If a match is found, the door is unlocked mechanically using an electromagnetic lock.

  • The ESP32-CAM module captures images of faces and sends them to the Arduino Uno board for processing.
  • The Arduino Uno board uses the LBPH algorithm to recognize faces and compare them with stored images.
  • If a match is found, the Arduino Uno board sends a signal to the electromagnetic lock to unlock the door.
